Clinical Behavioural Practitioner CFBA Master trainer GoMDT Personal Profile Animals have been the predominate passion and driving force to my continuing personal development. At a young age I became a junior handler in the show world, helping with grooming and breeding dogs within the family run kennels. Growing up on a small holding I worked with various livestock, birds of prey, endangered Parrots and many other domesticated animals. This is where my passion for animals particularly dogs was ignited. Throughout my adult life I have been fortunate to own and work with a multitude of breeds from; Yorkshire and Jack Russell terrier’s up to GSDs, American Bulldogs, Great Danes as well as rehabilitating rescue dogs. These animals inspired me to advance my knowledge though educational routes as well as practical experience. I now own and run a successful Dog training company, boarding kennels and most recently co-founded Dogs 4 Wildlife a Not For Profit organisation. Animal Career History February 2019- Present - Dogs4Wildlife Director/trainer Responsibilities Co-founder and Director whilst working as part of the team in breeding, raising and developing anti-poaching and detection dogs for conservancies across Africa, we have supplied 12 dogs to numerous Countries across the continent, also working on local community projects to help promote better welfare for the dogs in Africa with spay and vaccination programmes. Using my lecturing role to pioneer volunteering and educational placements at Dogs4Wildlife reserves for UK students to utilise the educational, practical and theoretical knowledge on dog welfare and handling in working environments across the world. Developing educational training programmes for both rangers and Volunteers to help promote better working relationships between handler and dog, increase welfare standards and incorporate reward-based training into their daily lives. This enables them to build a better bond and understanding so as a team they can track, detain, deter and prevent poaching incursions of the Worlds most endangered species. January 2018-Present - Waunbricks Boarding Kennels Owner Responsibilities Refurbishing and to the highest standards a small (32 dog) boarding kennels. Day to day tasks including booking in, managing day to day running of kennels, ensuring the dogs welfare whilst visiting and also running board and train programmes for clients’ dogs. Keeping standards within kennels to the highest level and monitoring every dog’s physiology and psychological needs whilst in my care. To give owners and dogs a stress-free holiday. August 2013 – Present - Extremus Dog Training Director/trainer Responsibilities Director and trainer at Extremus Dog Training Ltd. Training my own dogs using our unique philosophy of engagement training to develop strong working foundations, from obedient pets to operational police dogs/working dogs having raised and trained for licensing 67 operational Police Dogs and 11 anti-poaching Dogs. Working with customers on a daily basis on personal training programs and behavioural one to ones, helping them overcome behavioural issues with their dogs, in a tentative empathic manner and using a holistic approach to each individual case. Giving support and encouragement to help develop both client and dog to achieve clarity within their relationship. Advertising and advising through social media and maintaining own social network site and webpage. Developing and delivering our own training programme in weekend workshops and daily sessions August 2013 – Present, - Coleg Sirgar Carmarthen Part time Lecturer Animal care Responsibilities Supervising practical sessions, in small mammal and canine care with level 1, 2 and 3 students. This involves Instructing and assessing practical sessions to meet the learning criteria in animal care and husbandry. Inspiring the next generation to continue to develop and increase animal welfare and training and also to protect the environment. Giving presentations on Dogs4wildlife to various school and University students, highlighting the role of anti-poaching unit in preserving the delicate eco systems across Africa. October 2010- April 2013- A1K9 Responsibilities Started as work placement until January 2011. Full time trainer at a large personal protection kennels housing over 40 dogs. Duties included liaising with clients, helping in classes and one to ones alongside day-to-day responsibilities of training allocated dogs. Promoted to supervisor of health and welfare of kennels (August 2011). Other responsibilities included over seeing training plans for individual dogs, keeping records of worming, vaccination and any health concerns. I have spent time in both Zimbabwe and South Africa on reserves helping manage animal welfare and setting up dog welfare for their anti-poaching dogs. All things animal related I find fascinating, especially concerning their behaviour and welfare. |
